A participatory process is a sequence of participatory activities (e.g. first filling out a survey, then making proposals, discussing them in face-to-face or virtual meetings, and finally prioritizing them) with the aim of defining and making a decision on a specific topic.

Examples of participatory processes are: a process of electing committee members (where candidatures are first presented, then debated and finally a candidacy is chosen), participatory budgets (where proposals are made, valued economically and voted on with the money available), a strategic planning process, the collaborative drafting of a regulation or norm, the design of an urban space or the production of a public policy plan.

Youth-led Legislative Theatre on Youth Employment in the West Midlands, UK

#youthparticipation youthemployment legislativetheatre A Youth Led Legislative Theatre on equitable access to work experience

About this process

This participatory process brings together 15 young people (14-17 years old) from the West Midlands to work with policymakers, youth organisations and their communities. Together we'll co-create policies to support equitable access to work experience, training and employment for all young people in the West Midlands.

We are using Legislative Theatre. This online space supports the process and opens it to other young people and organisations across the region. Participants can share resources, blog posts, and ideas on how we can create work experience opportunities and training that work for all young people.

As the process evolves, young people will shape this online space in a way that works for them. This will help inform discussions, identify areas for amendment, and shape collective contributions during interactive events.
