The Alghero Process invites you to engage in an open and respectful debate on one of the most urgent and complex challenges of our time: how to balance the development of renewable energy infrastructure with the protection of cultural heritage, landscapes, and the rights of local communities.

Throughout this process, we will explore together the following key themes:

  • Energy Gentrification and Territorial Justice: What are the social and spatial consequences of large-scale windmill farms and solar panel plants? Who benefits from these projects—and who bears the burden?

  • Community Involvement in Energy Decisions: How can local communities meaningfully participate in decisions that affect their environment, identity, and everyday life? What roles should they play—from consultation to co-decision?

  • The Voice of Ecosystems: How can we include the perspectives of non-human actors—landscapes, species, and ecological systems—in our deliberations? How do we represent their interests in policymaking?

  • Rural Participation and the Digital Divide: Are digital platforms effective tools for inclusive participation in rural areas like ours? What are the barriers, and how can they be overcome?

  • New Models for Democratic Engagement: From mini-publics to deliberative cafés and assemblies rooted in the local context, what new forms of democratic innovation can help us move from protest to proposal?
