Across Sardinia and in Alghero, the urgent need to address climate change is colliding with a powerful local concern: the protection of landscapes, traditions, and cultural heritage. This tension has sparked a deep debate—one that is now at the heart of our collective future.
🔋 Position 1: "We need energy transition—now."
For those who support accelerating the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure, such as wind and solar farms, the message is clear: 🌍 climate change is already harming our ecosystems, increasing droughts, and threatening the future of younger generations. In this view, Alghero must do its part in the transition to sustainable energy. Renewable energy is seen not just as a technical solution, but as a moral and environmental imperative. From this perspective, delaying projects due to local resistance risks making the planet unlivable—for everyone. ⏳⚠️🌿 Position 2: "Yes to climate action—but not at any cost."
On the other side are those who believe that the way renewable energy is being rolled out represents a new form of injustice—what some call energy gentrification. These voices argue that decisions are being made without true participation 🙅♀️, and that vast windmill farms and solar plants risk damaging the landscapes 🏞️, biodiversity 🐦, and cultural identity 🏛️ that define Alghero. They don’t reject climate action, but call for a different path—one where communities are genuinely involved 🤝, and where the transition respects place, memory, and ecological balance. ⚖️
