Tool T2: Safer(r) Space Health Check Before participation
This survey is a practical self-assessment tool for designing participatory processes that are inclusive, transparent, safe, and accountable. It helps organisers check whether participants have meaningful influence over the process, whether barriers to participation have been anticipated, and whether adequate support, safeguarding, feedback, and decision-making structures are in place.
The questions invite teams to reflect on key dimensions of participation before launching or during the early stages of a process: clarity of scope, ongoing consent, outreach, accessibility, power-sharing, facilitation roles, timing, resourcing, risk mitigation, reporting protocols, and accountability after participation takes place.
Disclaimer
This survey has been published as a resource to support reflection, planning, and self-assessment in participatory processes. It is not an active consultation, data collection activity, or invitation to participate in a live process.
Responses are not being monitored, collected, or used for decision-making unless this is explicitly stated elsewhere by the organisation or facilitator using the survey. The tool is intended to be adapted, reused, or referenced by teams who wish to strengthen the inclusiveness, safety, transparency, and accountability of their own participatory activities.
