Circling the Circassian Identity

Heba Daghistani’s essay, Circling the Circassian Identity (Futuress, 2022), reflects on the complexities of belonging, exile, and cultural memory. Drawing from her own life as half Adygea, half Daghstani, born in Syria and raised in the UAE, Daghistani explores the fractured histories of the Circassian people, whose lands in the North Caucasus were repeatedly invaded, leading to mass displacement and diaspora.
